AUSTIN -- The Ridgewater baseball team got its bats going Friday, winning big in two games at a cross-over tournament in Austin.

The Warriors defeated Hibbing 15-3 in the first game and tore up Fond du Lac 17-0 in Game Two. Both were five-inning games.

"What was really good is that after our Florida trip, we were off for four weeks," said Warriors head coach Dennis Boe. "We had four good weeks of practice and we really started tying thing together."

In Game One, the Warriors pounded out 11 hits. Zach Fischer was 3-for-4, homered, doubled and drove in three runs. Travis Kahl had a bases-clearing triple and finished with five runs batted in. Mike Nielsen also had two hits and drove in two runs.

Shane Trattles improved to 2-1, scattering seven hits over four innings while striking out five. Aaron Valiant pitched a perfect fifth inning.

In Game Two, Nielsen hit a grand slam to highlight a seven-run second inning. Jake Rambow doubled in three runs in the first, Greg Barnes had two hits and drove in three runs and Zach Fischer tripled in two runs.

Adam Brewers worked four innings, allowing three hits, and Jarrod Holmgren worked a one-two-three fifth.

"We have a very young team, so to have so few veterans, this team is just starting to get a feel for what's going on," said Boe, who has 13 first-year players on his 19-player roster.

The Warriors are 4-7 and play Hibbing at 1 p.m. today, followed by a game against Central Lakes at 3 p.m. in Austin.
