WORTHINGTON — Minnesota West put an end to Ridgewater’s unbeaten season by shutting down the Warriors’ offense in a 26-6 Minnesota West victory Saturday.

Both teams are now 4-1.

“Our defense played very well,” said Warriors’ head coach Rob Baumgarn. “West was able to get a few runs on us but we held their backs in check for the majority of the game.”

But the offense didn’t clock in for their shift when they got off the bus. At least, their attention seemed somewhere else.

“We had too many false starts, too many mental mistakes and missed assignments,” said Baumgarn. “We would have a nice gain and then have a mistake.

“We had eight false starts, several bad snaps or exchanges and way too many turnovers.”

One plus for the Warriors offense was wide receiver Kevin Parks, who caught 6 passes for 146 yards from Wes Oswald, who was sacked for 38 yards in losses.

The South’s top rusher, Reuben Linton, gained 125 yards in 12 snaps with scoring bursts of 18 and 55 yards. The Bluejays’ Tyler Smith kicked a 52-yard field goal.

Off days happen in life and sports, Baumgarn told the team, adding that the next game will be a measure of the team’s character.

Ridgewater plays Fond du Lac at 6 p.m. Saturday at Cloquet.
