WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater football team won its second straight game, in easy fashion, over Vermilion Community College on Saturday at Hodapp Field.

The Warriors scored 34 first-half points and cruised, 55-6, behind almost 400 rushing yards.

Quarterback Cody Jaeger scored on an 85-yard run to open the scoring, and the Warriors also got big-play touchdowns from Michael Wilson's 37-yard interception return, Batelym Exil's 67-yard scoring run and Wes Oswald's 64-yard scoring pass to Andrew Walstrom.

"We really didn't have very long drives," said Warriors head coach Rob Baumgarn.

"Everything happened on two or three plays. Our offensive line played great and our running back did really well on finishing the plays."

Exil, with 127 yards on 12 carries, led a Warriors ground game that totaled 394 yards and averaged 10.6 yards per carry. Jaeger gained 95 yards on three carries, and Martell Baker picked up 49 yards and scored TDs on runs of three yards and 14 yards. DeAndre Henry had 51 rushing yards and scored on an 18-yard run in the third quarter.

Despite throwing just 11 passes, Ridgewater finished with 180 yards and Oswald's scoring strikes to Walstrom and Justin Frank.

The Warriors defense allowed Vermilion just 74 rushing yards and 200 total yards.

Lineback Tarrell McDuffie led the Warriors with eight total tackles, including one for a lose, and tackle Glen Ingram made five stops, including two for lost yares.

"Our defense did well after we settled down after the first quarter," Baumgarn said. "Glen Ingram had a really nice game on the defensive line, and the secondary didn't give up any big plays over the top."

Baumgarn said the Warriors maintained their discipline during the Vermilion blowout.

"My biggest concern was if we were going to lose our focus during the game with a big lead," Baumgarn said. "I was pleased that we kept working for four quarters."

The Warriors take their 2-0 mark to Thief River Falls for a 2 p.m. game against Northland on Saturday.
