College hockey: Gophers fall 4-3
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Kevin Walrod's two goals and goalie Drew Palmisano's sprawling save in the closing seconds helped Michigan State hold off Minnesota 4-3 on Friday.
Walrod scored on the power play in the first period and short-handed in the third. Palmisano preserved the win with a glove save on Kyle Rau's wrister, falling on his chest in front of the net with 43 seconds remaining.
Brett Perlini assisted on two goals, including one by Walrod and on Matt Berry's third-period tally. Brent Damell also scored for the Spartans (7-5-0).
Palmisano finished with 40 saves.
The third-ranked Gophers (11-4-0) have not won on a Friday since being voted No. 1 three weeks ago, though they are 6-0-0 on Saturdays.
Nick Bjugstad scored two goals and Seth Helgeson had the other for Minnesota.
Bjugstad has scored 15 goals in 15 games this season, and 20 goals in his last 21 games over the last two seasons.
"We started off slow agaon on a Friday night," Bjugstad said. "We battled back but it wasn't enough. We've got to forget about this night and come out harder tomorrow."
Minnesota goalie Kent Patterson had 19 saves.
