College Softball: Ridgewater 1-3 at Florida

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- The Ridgewater softball team started the 2009 season winning one out of four games at the Cocoa Beach (Fla.) Challenge Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Warriors lost three games to NJCAA Division II opponents Lakeland (Ill.) 13-4, Lansing (Mich.) 8-0 and Northern Iowa (10-2). They triumphed in Sunday's final game 9-0 against Division III Rock Valley (Ill.).

Saturday's Games

Lakeland 13, Ridgewater 4

Ridgewater expended all of its bullets in the first inning, scoring four runs. Ashley Schmeling drove in two run and Sam Drees had two hits overall.

Ridgewater broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the seven by plating all nine runs. Steph Rhea drove in three runs. Kristin Kahle went the distance for the win. She allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked two.
