College softball: Ridgewater sweeps Minn. West

WORTHINGTON -- Ridgewater won its ninth and 10th consecutive games with two 8-0 victories over Minnesota West on Tuesday in Worthington.

The Warriors improved to 6-0 in the MCAC and 12-5 overall.

Andrea Krause pitched a two-hit shutout and Yvonne Wani ripped a two-run homer, her first of the season, to lead the attack in Game 1.

The Warriors didn't let up in Game 2, getting a shutout from Shannon Heitz and pounding out 12 hits for another eight runs.

Ridgewater travels to Rochester Community and Technical College on Friday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

Andrea Krause struck out six and allowed just two hits pitching all five innings for the Warriors. She improves to 7-0 and has a team-leading 42 strikeouts.

The Warriors did all their damage early, scoring three runs in the second innings and five in the third.

In addition to Yvonne Wani's homer, Brooke Carlson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Brittney Nissen drove in two with a triple.

Samantha Cunningham added a double and two RBIs.

Shannon Heitz tossed a shutout of her own, a seven-strikeouts, four-hit performance to lead the Warriors.

Ridgewater again put runs up early, scoring three each in the first and third innings.

Kari Shipman, Haley Springer, Andrea Krause and Jenna Kincade had two hits each in the 12-hit outburst.

Brenna Holwerda added a double and two RBIs and Kincade had a triple and an RBI.
