College Softball: Ridgewater sweeps MN West behind Koenen’s no-hitter, 3 homers

WILLMAR — Alicia Koenen pitched a five-inning no-hitter and Ridgewater scored a total of 21 runs to sweep a MCAC South doubleheader over Minnesota West 13-7 and 8-0 on Friday.

Brielle Hauge had a combined six hits on the day, and Brooke Carlson, Brenna Holwerda and Justine Otremba all hit home runs.

The Warriors, who hit three home runs on Thursday, improved to 9-6 overall.

They play a home doubleheader noon today against Anoka Ramsey before playing Riverland in Mankato on Sunday for another MCAC South doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

Game One

Ridgewater 13, Minnesota West 7

Ridgewater trailed 7-1 after four and a half, but scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie it, and six more in the sixth to put the game away.

The Warriors strung together seven hits in a row capped by Holwerda’s three-run homer.

Nissen pitched and went the distance, striking out five.

Koenen held Minnesota West hitless for five innings, striking out six and walking three.

“Alicia pitched real well,” Warriors’ coach Todd Thorstad said. “She was going after batters and got in her groove.”

Ridgewater scored five runs in the first inning, with two coming on a Carlson triple.
