WILLMAR -- The road to Rochester got a lot longer for Ridgewater College on Thursday afternoon when the Yellowjackets and pitcher Laura Carnell blanked the Ridgewater College softball team 2-0 at College Field.

That puts Rochester in command at the Region 13A Tournament, which will determine the qualifier for the NJCAA Division III Tournament May 17-19 -- at Rochester.

Carnell (16-10), a sophomore from Comfrey, allowed five hits against a Warriors team that won three of four from the Jackets during the MCAC Southern Division schedule.

It was an excellent game. Rochester (24-17) was sharper in the field and their long drives found the gaps while Ridgewater's hung up in the south wind a little longer and were caught.

Ridgewater (31-10), the top seed and defending champion, lacked the clutch hit, stranding eight.

The Warriors must win three times today to return to Rochester, starting at 10 a.m. today playing No. 4-seed Anoka-Ramsey (17-27).

The Golden Rams managed an infield single off Krause in the first inning and a solid single in fifth by Katie Massoglia.

The Warriors got their first two runs on sac flies and then an RBI single by Brooke Carlson. Brittney Nissen belted an RBI double to the fence in the fourth that scored Carlson, who reached on her second hit of the game.

The game-ending run was scored by leadoff batter Kari Shipman. She reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and charged around third when the Rams' shortstop couldn't get a handle on a grounder by Haley Springer. The throw home was in time but Shipman's head-first slide jarred the ball from the catcher's glove.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the fourth and got two aboard in the sixth on singles by Andrea Krause and Brittney Nissen with one out. But Carnell got Aimee Johnson on a fly to shallow left and Jen Storck on a ball deep to left with Katie Busse making a fine catch each time.
