College softball: Warriors drop 2 to Riverland

AUSTIN — The Ridgewater softball team dropped a pair of close games to Riverland on Saturday.

The Blue Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on to win Game One 10-8, then scratched out a 13-12 win in Game Two.

The Warriors fell to 8-8 in the MCAC Southern Division and they are 18-11 overall. They play next at St. Cloud Tech at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at River’s Edge Park in Waite Park.

The Warriors committed eight errors in the first game, leading to five unearned Riverland runs.

Erica Melbie had two hits, including a solo home run, and Brielle Hauge doubled and drove in three runs. Dani Emkes and Brooke Wuertz both had two hits and drove in runs.

In Game Two, Hauge hit two home runs and drove in five runs, and Courtney Olson had three hits, including a homer, and Emkes had another two-hit game.

Riverland pitcher Lexi Schunke recorded both victories, and in the second game she was 4-for-4 with two homers, a double and five RBIs.
