College softball: Warriors sweep Rochester, move into first in South

Ridgewater got on the board early with a six-run first inning in Game 1 of its doubleheader Saturday and didn't let up, sweeping Rochester with 10-2 and 9-5 wins.

The Warriors moved into first place in the MCAC South with a 13-2 conference record. They are 22-9 overall.

Rochester dropped to second place with a 12-4 record in the South.

The Warriors next play at Fergus Falls in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday.

Ridgewater 10, Rochester 2

The Warriors took advantage of a leadoff walk and two errors in a first inning rally that was capped by a Brittany Nissen three-run double.

Andrea Krause went five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.

Krause was also 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Rochester held a 4-1 lead after three but the Warriors put up four spots in the fourth and sixth innings to come away with the win.

Haley Springer was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Brittany Nissen was 1-for-3 with a two-run double.

Shannon Heitz picked up the win with seven strikeouts in four innings of work.
