College volleyball: Karbo, Stommes top MCAC South

Two Ridgewater volleyball players were selected MCAC South Athletes of the Week after the Willmar college went 4-1, including three wins vs. NJCAA Division II level schools:

Tiffani Karbo, Setter of the Week, with 142 set-assists (9.46 per game). The freshman from Balaton added 22 digs and 9 ace serves.

Kelsey Stommes, All-Around Player of the Week, recorded 53 kills (3.53 per game) with a .355 attack percentage, including 3 matches above .500. The second-year student from Cold Spring also had 11 blocks, 14 digs and 8 aces serving.

The Warriors (8-0, 15-5), who are ranked No. 1 nationally in NJCAA Division III, will host St. Cloud Technical College at 6:30 p.m. today.

Ridgewater football falls to fourth in state rankings

Saturday's 20-12 loss to Fond du Lac displaced the Warriors from the top spot in the MCAC rankings. Central Lakes is now No. 1, followed by Rochester, the Thunder and Ridgewater.

The Warriors are at Rochester Saturday and back home Oct. 13 to play Central Lakes.
