College Volleyball: Ridgewater takes out MN West in 4

WORTHINGTON -- The Ridgewater volleyball team got out to a slow start but made adjustments throughout the match and defeated Minnesota West in four games on Wednesday.

The Warriors won 23-25, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-14.

Minnesota West plays a strong defensive game and the Warriors had to figure out ways to deal with their opponents' less-aggressive approach and large net presence, said Ridgewater head coach Joe Sussenguth.

"Minnesota West generally finds ways to make rallies longer," Sussenguth said. "They don't make mistakes and they're big at the net. We had to change things up offensively and spread the floor."

Kelsey Stommes led the Warriors with 14 kills and 6 ace blocks, and Cassie Ziemer had 9 kills and 4 blocks.

Tiffani Karbo had 34 set assists and 3 blocks.

"We were not being aggressive (early in the match) and teams pick up on that," Sussenguth said. "But I'm proud of the way we finished."

The Warriors, now 5-0 in the MCAC and 8-1 overall, play host to the Ridgewater Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
