The prestigious Vander Stoep Award for men's athletics went to Nic Leither of Atwater (ACGC). The Vander Stoep Award takes into consideration attitude and sportsmanship on and off the playing field and comparative contributions made to the success of the team. To be eligible, an athlete must have attended Northwestern College for four consecutive semesters and must also have participated in one or two sports for at least two years, while earning a minimum of two varsity letters in one or more sports.

Leither is a three-time NAIA All-American in wrestling, earning fourth ('10), fifth ('12), and eighth ('09) place at the NAIA championships. He is the only freshman in Northwestern history to be named an All-American. Leither is third all-time at Northwestern with 29 career falls and is 10th all-time with 72 career wins.

"This is an impressive honor for Nic," commented head wrestling coach Rik Dahl. "It speaks volumes for his commitment to wrestling and Northwestern College."
