College Wrestling: Peterson 3rd for Warriors at Jimmie Open
JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Heavyweight Zane Peterson went 4-1 to place third for Ridgewater Saturday at the Jamestown Jimmie Open.
Peterson lost his opening-round match before reeling off four straight wins. The sophomore from Lakeville earned two first-period pins to reach the third-place match where he won a 6-2 decision over Taylor Hellman of the University of Mary.
Eight of the Ridgewater entrants won at least one match. Adam Sufliet at 133 pounds and Zach Revier at 149 both finished 3-2 after winning their fifth-place matches.
“We are steadily improving as we finished a combined 16-18 in matches for the day,” said Ridgewater coach Tom Gruhlke. “Again we were competing in a tournament that included varsity wrestlers from four-year schools and held our own very well. Clearly the wrestlers are getting used to the advanced-level of competition at the college level as well as the coaching staff, which is experiencing the college scene for the first time also.”
Next up for the Warriors is a dual in Minneapolis to face the Augsburg College JV team at 6 p.m.
