College wrestling: Ridgewater splits 4 matches at own invite

WILLMAR — Klinton Van Heuveln has had his share of victories as a high-school and college wrestler but none against former Minneota Vikings wrestler Beau Buysse.
Since his eight-grade year at Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Van Heuveln had wrestled Buysse annually.
“I’d say at least twice a year and he always beat me,” said the Ridgewater College sophomore Friday evening.
Buysee is now a sophomore at Southwest Minnesota State while Van Heuveln is in his second year at Ridgewater.
They met again at 149 pounds in the last of the Warriors four matches and this time Van Heuveln prevailed winning a decision.
While he maintained it was no big deal, the 2011 state runnerup in Class A was clearly pleased to finally get an edge on his long-time adversary.
He maintained he is just pleased the Lord gives him the chance to wrestle and he’d act or feel no differently if he’d lost to Buysee, again.
The Warriors went 2-2 on their home mats, outpointing Jamestown (N.D.) College and Itasca CC but losing to St. John’s University and Southwest Minnesota State.
The four-year colleges brought a mix of junior varsity and varsity wrestlers.
Frank Wilczek at 133 scored 3 pins. Trevor Mahlum, another ex-Saint, finished 3-0. Alex Thurber also won three matches.
Former area wrestlers at the meet included St. John’s Ben Henle (New London-Spicer) and Southwest State’s Micah Larson (ACGC).
Southwest State, which was undefeated, is coached by Jesse Nelson, former head coach at Ridgewater.
