College wrestling: Warriors’ Sutlief, Meyer shine at Dragons Open
MOORHEAD — Ridgewater’s Adam Sutlief, a freshman from Browerville, placed runner-up at 133-pounds on Saturday at the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons Open.
Sutlief pinned the Dragons’ Tyler Tensen (BBE) and won a decision over Brandon Peters of Augsburg before losing in the championship to Cody Paulsen (St. Cloud State).
Matt Meyer (ACGC) went 3-1 with a fall at 157. He beat wrestlers from MSU-Moorhead (twice) and Augsburg.
Coach Tom Gruhlke took a scaled down line-up to the tournament but was pleased to see his wrestlers compete so well.
“We are competing at a level where most of our matches are won or lost by decisions and very few pins are being gained or lost and this is against wrestlers that are mostly state placers from high school,” said the first-time Warriors head coach.
Ridgewater hosts a quad on Friday and is at the St. Cloud State Open on Saturday.
