After a first-round bye, Van Heuveln decisioned Blake Santi of Harper College 9-2 and then pinned Simeon Everett of Springfield Tech in 40 seconds in the championship match. Both Santi and Everett are ranked nationally. Van Heuveln is 30-6 with 15 pins this season.

“They’re both good wrestlers,” Ridgewater head coach Tom Beyer said. “(Van Heuveln’s) had a great year.”

Ridgewater placed fifth in team scoring. Rochester Community College won the meet and Harper College was second.

Ridgewater’s Shane Fessenmeier placed second at 157 pounds, Trevor Mahlum was third at 174 pounds, Brady Thisius was third at 184 pounds and Alex Thurber was fourth at 197 pounds.

Tyrell Martin was fifth at 165 pounds and Dennis Wilson was sixth at 149 pounds.

Beyer said a few Warriors wrestlers were unable to make the trip to the tournament because they had school projects or class schedule conflicts.
