Condol M. Wood Sept. 4, 1915 - Nov. 20, 2009
MARIETTA -- Condol Moore Wood, 94, of Madison, formerly of Marietta, died Nov. 20 at Madison Lutheran Home.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Church of Christ in Marietta. Military honors will be provided by Marietta Legion Post 156 and Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1656. Burial will be in Algona, Iowa.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon with a public prayer service at 7 p.m. at Zahrbock Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1915, in Bradgate, Iowa, to Walter and Lillie (Moore) Wood. He attended country school near his parents' farm. He worked for farmers in the Bradgate and Pioneer areas of Iowa. He also farmed with his brother. On June 9, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in New Guinea, Maffin Bay, Sansapor and Philippines. He was discharged in October 1945.
He married Leota Norris on Dec. 7, 1947, in Algona, Iowa. He re-enlisted in the Army and served until 1951. Upon his discharge, they farmed in Iowa until moving to a farm near Marietta in 1956. They farmed until retirement in 2002. He moved to Park Avenue Apartments in Madison and later to Madison Lutheran Home.
He is survived by four daughters: Joyce Wood of Sisseton, S.D., Phyllis Wood of Minneapolis, Alice (and Scott) Rickson of Corcoran, and Lana Wood Schlick (and special friend Kevin) of Shakopee; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother: Elton Wood of Whitemore, Iowa; and seven sisters: Dorothy Martin of Nashua, Iowa, Lucille Leist of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Betty Vonbank of Milan, Mo., Blondie Vonbeck of Nevis, Elsie Eichen of Algona, Bonnie Esser of Algona, and Mary Ann Reynolds of Sun City, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003; a son: Michael, in infancy; two sisters; and five brothers.
