Congressional officials say congresswoman shot

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional officials say Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been shot in the head while meeting with constituents in her district in the area around Tucson.

These officials say as few as four and as many as a dozen people were wounded in the attack, including members of the Democratic congresswoman's staff. One official says one of the victims has died.

The severity of the injuries suffered by the others is not immediately known.

The officials spoke only on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to do so on the record.
