Contractor faces additional charges of theft by swindle
WILLMAR — Charges continue to add up against a contractor who has been charged with swindling clients by not performing services for which he was paid.
Shawn Ray Bachman, 42, of Montevideo, was arraigned Wednesday in Kandiyohi County District Court in Willmar on two new sets of charges.
He is charged with two felony counts of theft of services and two felony counts of theft by swindle.
In the new charges, he is accused of accepting $7,253.56 in payments in June and September of 2012 from a Spicer man. He allegedly completed only a portion of the promised work on a shoreline, and left the site in a disorderly state with piles of dirt and rock, the complaint charges.The new charges also allege that he accepted a $1,095 down payment from a Kandiyohi woman in May 2013. He promised to pressure wash a house, fix its trim, and paint the house and a deck at a total cost of $3,650. The complaint alleges that he rolled some paint, and demanded the remainder of the money before he would perform any additional work. He has retained the down payment, the complaint alleges.Previously, Kandiyohi County filed similar theft by swindle and theft of service charges for incidents involving a Lake Lillian property and a man who had loaned a dog for breeding purposes to him.Kandiyohi County also filed separate charges of terroristic threats against Bachman for allegedly threatening the lives of a man and his family.
