Crop dusting plane crashes near Kerkhoven
KERKHOVEN — A crop dusting plane crash landed Tuesday afternoon in a corn field southeast of Kerkhoven, according to Swift County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigation of the scene showed that Douglas Jackson, 54, of Benson, was spraying a soybean field about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday when he hit a guy wire for a power pole, causing the engine of the plane to shut off.
Jackson said he did not see the guy wire and tried landing on the road before the crash landing in the corn field south of U.S. Highway 12 along Kandiyohi County Road 39. He was not injured.
After deputies arrived on scene, they contacted the Federal Aviation Administration. The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating the scene further Wednesday morning.
Kerkhoven Fire Department, Kerkhoven Ambulance and Kandiyohi County Power Cooperative assisted the Swift County Sheriff’s Office.
