NORTHFIELD -- Four of the nine area participants that will be competing in the Class A state cross country meet Saturday at St. Olaf College will be looking to improve from last year.
Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd junior Tera Walker has the most experience, having qualified for state every year since she was a seventh-grader in 2006. Walker was 57th as a seventh-grader, 23rd as an eighth-grader, 20th as a freshman and 35th last year.
Spencer Erickson, a junior from New London-Spicer will be making her fourth consecutive appearance at state. Erickson finished 48th as an eighth-grader, 21st as a freshman and 33rd last year.
Savannah Ramirez, a freshman from Litchfield, also ran in last year's meet and went on to finish in 48th place.
On the boys side, Morris Area sophomore Roy Reese finished 103rd last year and heads a group of five runners from Section 6A that qualified for this year's meet. Reese was fourth in last Thursday's section meet while Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa senior Grant Bell was fifth, Litchfield freshman Caleb Kragenbring seventh, Morris Area senior Dan Tiernan eighth and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd senior Alex Stamp ninth.
Shingo Yamane, a senior from MACCRAY/Renville County West, will also be competing in the boys' race on Saturday. The boys open the meet at 10 a.m. with the girls starting at 11 a.m.
