Cyril J. Spanier Oct. 21, 1933 - Aug. 8, 2013

PAYNESVILLE - Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Cyril J. Spanier, age 79 of Paynesville and formerly of Lake Henry who passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Paynesville Hospital. Reverend Glenn Krystosek and Reverend Gregory Lieser will officiate. Burial will take place with military honors at St. Margaret's Parish Cemetery, Lake Henry.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Arrangements were by the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home, Paynesville.

Cyril was born on October 21, 1933 in Paynesville, Minnesota to Herbert and Erma (Lahr) Spanier. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Cyril was united in marriage to Joanne M. Meyer on June 4, 1958 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry. The couple farmed near Lake Henry for 53 years until retiring in 2011 and moving to Paynesville. He was a member of St. Louis Parish, Catholic United Financial, Lake Henry American Legion Post #612, the St. Joseph's Men's Society, the Central Minnesota Umpire's Association, active member of the Stearns County Farmers Union, retired from the Lake Henry Fire Department and was a volunteer driver for the Rose Center.

Cyril liked square dancing, bowling, traveling and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cyril is survived by his children, Darlene (Jim) Schoenberg of Spring Hill, Randy of Lake Henry, Sharon (Larry) Wendroth of Paynesville and Ron (Amy) of Lake Henry; 15 grandchildren, Jill (Cory) Yarke, Jeff (fiancé Rachel) Schoenberg, Justin (Ann) Schoenberg, Josh (Courtney) Schreifels, Peter Schreifels, Cory Spanier, Clay Spanier, Tyler, Allie, Tanner and Tucker Wendroth, Sydney and Maxwell Anderson, Luke and Peyton Spanier; three great grandchildren, Eli , Jack and Kali Yarke; brothers, Melvin of Paynesville, Richard of Forest Lake, Orville of Sun City West, Arizona, Mike of Sartell and Kevin of Chandler, Arizona; sisters, Evelyn Sorenson of Stillwater, Mary Johnson of Moncks Corner, North Carolina and Judy Lieser of St. Louis Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne on August 26, 2011; brothers, David and Roger.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
