GRANITE FALLS -- Cyril "Stub" Scholtes, 89, of Granite Falls, died Tuesday at the Granite Falls Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls.
He was born Aug. 2, 1919, in Luverne to Joseph Sr. and Katie (Haas) Scholtes. He grew up in Wilmont and graduated from high school in Worthington. He attended Worthington Junior College. He joined the Army in 1942 and spent his three years in Kingman, Ariz., and then transferred to Germany where he remained until receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. He went into the men's clothing business with his brother-in-law, John Palmer.
He married Betty Kern in 1955 and continued with The Men's Store in downtown Granite Falls, retiring in 1977. They spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Granite Falls.
He is survived by his wife and daughter: Kathy McDaniel of Eagan.
He was preceded in death by his son: David; three sisters; and three brothers.
