Dangerous thunderstorms to develop in Dakotas and move across Minn. tonight
Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in the Dakotas this afternoon and head east into western Minnesota during the evening.
While there is a much better threat for tornadoes, hail, and wind in the Dakotas, the threat for damaging winds will continue well into Minnesota as individual storms grow into a complex and move across tonight the state.
There is also a threat for heavy rainfall with this expected complex of storms. One to 2 inches of rain seems quite likely in some locations across Minnesota and into Wisconsin tonight. Any higher totals will be sensitive to how fast the storms are moving when they come through tonight or if more than one cluster of storms moves over the same area.
The best window for heavy rainfall in western Minnesota is from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. tonight. In eastern and southern Minnesota as well as western Wisconsin, the highest chances arrive between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
