Dangerous wind chills continue across west central Minnesota this afternoon, use caution when outside
Update 2 p.m.:
Dangerous wind chills continue across part of west central Minnesota into this afternoon.
The National Weather Service advisory has been extended for a portion of west central Minnesota through 4 p.m. this afternoon. This advisory includes Alexandria, Montevideo, Morris, Long Prairie and Willmar.
Across portions of the region, southeast winds in the 10 to 20 mph range have combined with actual air temperatures between 10 and 13 degree below zero to generate wind chill temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees below zero.
With actual air temperatures expected to remain in the single digits below zero, these dangerous wind values will continue through the afternoon. A slight decrease in wind speeds this evening will allow for wind chill values to climb to 15 to 25 below zero by early this evening.
These very low wind chill temperatures across the region will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
Wind chili of 25 to 35 below zero will return later tonight.
A clipper system will bring some light snow to parts of the upper Midwest this afternoon and tonight. Snow accumulations in general should be under an inch for mainly central Minnesota into west central Wisconsin.
Dangerously cold wind chills between 25 to 35 below zero will continue into Saturday morning across portions of west central and central Minnesota.
Another clipper system will bring some light snow Sunday and Sunday evening. Snow accumulations will be around an inch or two.
