Dangerous wind chills in store today, Tuesday

WILLMAR — Sub-zero temperatures and northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will combine to create dangerous wind chills today and into Tuesday.
The National Weather Service in Chanhassen issued a wind chill warning Sunday night that is expected to remain in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The temperatures in west central Minnesota are expected to reach a high of -3 to -11 degrees today, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Those temperatures could sink to 28 below zero tonight.
The wind chill will be between 35 and 40 degrees below zero across west central Minnesota tonight and into Tuesday morning.
According to the Weather Service, a wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values that will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.
According to Weather Service records, several communities in the region posted the coldest wind chills in the state Saturday night, including Montevideo with 26 degrees below zero wind chill, Pennock at 25 below, and Clara City and Benson at 24 below.
The forecast isn’t expected to improve much the rest of the week.
The high temperatures likely won’t get past 12 degrees above zero until Sunday when it could warm up to about 25 degrees, according to the Weather Service.
