Dassel, Minn., man gets 10 years in prison for stabbing
LITCHFIELD -- Nels Clarence Bonde, 24, of Dassel, was sentenced Thursday to 130 months in prison, which is more than 10 years, on a first-degree assault charge for stabbing a woman during a May 4 incident at a rural Litchfield residence.
As part of his sentenced handed down by District Judge Michael J. Thompson in Meeker County District Court, Bonde was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $7,020.82 in restitution from his prison earnings. He was given credit for 166 days already served in custody.
As part of a plea agreement, charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon were dismissed in return for a plea to the first-degree assault charge and the 130-month sentence, according to County Attorney Stephanie Beckman.
The sentence was an "upward departure" from the state sentencing guideline range of 84 to 117 months in prison.
The charges were filed after Meeker County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a rural Litchfield home on a report that a 25-year-old woman had been stabbed by Bonde.
According to the complaint, Bonde and another man went to the residence on May 1 to visit the woman and a man who also lived there. While they were at the home, some money was found to be missing and the woman suspected Bonde or her roommate.
Late on May 3, Bonde came to the home and spoke with the woman about the missing money, then left her room to talk to the other resident.
The woman reported that she awoke to find Bonde on top of her and stabbing her. She was stabbed in the neck, chest and abdomen, but was able to get the knife away from Bonde and throw the weapon under the bed.
In addition to stabbing the woman, Bonde also punched and kicked her and choked her to the point where she almost passed out.
The complaint notes that Bonde suddenly stopped attacking the woman and gave the woman her cellphone so that she could call 911.
The woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for numerous stab wounds, extreme swelling of the throat area, a broken nose and other injuries.
Deputies found a large knife under the woman's bed and located and arrested Bonde, who was still at the residence.
