PAYNESVILLE -- David Gronli, 87, of Paynesville, died Tuesday at Paynesville Area Hospital.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Military honors will be provided by the Paynesville American Legion Post 271. Burial will be at a later date.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
He was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Irving Township near Hawick to Peder and Julie (Johnson) Gronli. He grew up on the family farm in the Lost Valley area of Hawick. He attended District 92 Country School, Paynesville High School for two years and graduated from New London High School in 1941. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1944 during World War II. He waited 25 years before starting college at St. Cloud State and graduated in 1969.
He married Alice Bipes on Oct. 15, 1952, in Milaca. They lived in Willmar for five years before moving to the New London-Spicer area and years later to Paynesville. He worked at a CCC Camp before he became self-employed working in the construction industry. He also owned and maintained rental properties throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife; and by one sister: Violet Luthens of Spicer.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
