David 'Roger' Lief Dec. 11, 1919 - Sept. 8, 2009
WILLMAR -- David "Roger" Lief, 89, of Willmar died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Watertown, S.D., to Olaf and Francis (Fornell) Lief. When he was young, the family moved to Willmar and he attended Willmar Public Schools.
He married Wilma Tesch on June 28, 1941, in Willmar. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Willmar and worked for Great Northern-Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Great Northern Railroad Historical Society, Great Northern Goats and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife; children: Gerald (and Pat) Lief of Willmar, David (and Sandra) Lief of Mason City, Iowa, Carol (and Roger) Olson of Gettysburg, S.D., Rodney Lief of Willmar and Thomas (and Jackie) Lief of Federal Way, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Gladys Easterlund of Burnsville,
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
