MORRIS -- David Wendt, 66, of Morris died Monday at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris.
The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hosanna Worship Center in Morris. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church on Friday. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1943, in Springfield to Elmer and Florence Wendt. He attended Lamberton Public Schools until 1956, when the family moved to Morris, where he finished his education. He farmed with his father.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard of Minnesota in 1964. He served in Company A, 4th Battalion, 3rd Regiment and was honorably discharged in November 1970. His military training was conducted at Camp Ripley as well as Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Fort Carson, Colo.
He suffered a severe brain trauma caused by being hit in the head by a soccer ball at a Sunday school picnic in 1971. This was a defining event in his life as it made him vulnerable to neurological seizures and strokes. His last stroke was in 1993. He had been a resident of the Villa Nursing Home, now called West Wind Village since 1993.
He is survived by his mother of Morris; siblings: Joyce Wendt and Roger Wendt, both of Morris.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1985.
