Dawson-native Turnberg no longer anchoring Valley News Live in Fargo
FARGO - Valley Today and Noon Anchor Michelle Turnberg is no longer with Valley News Live, according to the Web site for KVLY 11 and KXJB 4.
In a very brief statement posted today, the Web site says: "We thank Michelle for her efforts and wish her well. The search for a new anchor is underway."
The Web site did not give details on Turnberg's departure.
Last year, Forum readers voted Michelle Turnberg as the area's Best TV Anchor. She also was one of the featured runners for the 2009 Fargo Marathon.
Turnberg is a native of Dawson, Minn.
In 2000, a Forum article reported Turnberg, then working solely for KXJB, was named "Outstanding Young Broadcaster" by the North Dakota State Broadcasters Association.
She also was named "Best Female Anchor-small market" by the Internet company Newstalent.com and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Turnberg, who joined KXJB in 1997, is a graduate of Concordia College and Moorhead State University.
The following is an excerpt from Oct. 11, 2009, Forum article on Turnberg being named Best TV Anchor:
Michelle Turnberg's first job at KVLY-TV was answering phones for $5 an hour.
"I think I've done every job imaginable," she joked. "I've been around awhile." Perhaps for that reason, she said, she's gained popularity by local TV news viewers.
Thirteen years after starting at the local news station, the single mom and avid marathoner has become a prominent anchor.
"We've got a lot of people who get up with us each morning," she said. "It's humbling to know people watch. I guess I have bragging rights at work."
