The exhibit explores imagery of "Day of the Dead" with works by contemporary artists Claudia Baca, Luis Fitch, Alexa Horochowski, Gustavo Lira, Douglas Padilla, Jenny Schmid, and Xavier Tavera. Steamroller prints produced by ArtOrg and Grupo Soap del Corazon, originally exhibited at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, dominate the gallery, with other objects, photographs, and prints that celebrate "Day of the Dead" and Mexican culture.

Dougie Padilla, a self-taught visionary artist of Norwegian/Mexican roots will give a slide presentation about his experiences with the Mexican tradition of the "Day of the Dead," at 11 a.m. Monday in the L-30 lecture hall which is below the library. It will be followed by a public reception at noon in the Art Gallery.

Padilla, who lives in Minneapolis, is co-founder of Grupo Soap del Corazon, a Latino arts group. He has shown works at numerous venues including the Museé Halle Saint Pierre in Paris, France and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. He has received the Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship, several Ofrenda awards from CreArte, Chicano Latino Cultural Center and Museum, the Jerome Foundation Travel Grant and was named one of Minneapolis' City Pages' "Artists of the Year" in 2000.
