Dean Edwin Julson was born February 8, 1934 in Olivia, MN, to Edwin and Rose (Hemze) Julson. He grew up on the family farm in Winfield Township. Dean attended country school for six years and graduated from Olivia High School in 1952. After graduation he worked for Chamberlain Engineering as a surveyor. On November 6, 1954 he married Diane "Punky" Hefti at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia and they were blessed with five children. Dean farmed from 1957 to 1994 after which he worked for Keltgen Tire for many years painting agricultural rims. Even after retiring he enjoyed socializing and having coffee with the guys at Keltgens. In later years he enjoyed helping the O'Neill brothers with the field work and fall harvest. He was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he had often ushered. Dean had many interests including restoring cars and displaying them in car shows, customizing his motorcycle and riding it with family and friends with a few trips to the Black Hills, and studying airplanes, especially World War Two era ones. He truly cherished family times whether he was doing things such as helping his children making tree houses and go-karts, camping trips, and ice fishing outings. Dean was a gentle man, with a calm demeanor, whose strong love for animals was evidenced by always having a favorite pet cat nearby. Dean could often be found in his tool shed and the family fondly remembers his artistic and creative abilities as he had a knack of turning "something out of nothing".
Dean is survived by his wife Punky Julson of Olivia; his four children: Deb (Dave) Pastoors of Olivia, Charlene (Lyle) Bengston of Spicer, Rick (Joi) Julson of Olivia, and Michael Julson of Sartell; his eleven grandchildren: Jennifer (Adam) Bernardy, Jacob Pastoors, Jessica Pastoors, Joshua Pastoors, Jenessa Pastoors, Chad (Jen) Revier, Danny Bengston, Jason Bengston, Karl (Sara) Julson, Nicholas Julson, and Logan Julson; his six great-granddaughters; and his sister Mary Ann Hendrickson of Minnetonka. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Linda Julson.
