Email

WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Commissioners are expected to make a decision Tuesday on which redistricting plan to adopt.

A hearing on the different proposals and maps will be held at 11:30 a.m. as a part of the County Board of Commissioners' regular board meeting on the second floor of the Health and Human Services Building, 2200 23rd St. N.E. in Willmar.

Commissioners will likely take a vote following the hearing, but they could delay the decision until April 17.

Realigning the county's five commissioner districts was required after the 2010 Census showed a decline in population from the southern half of the county and an increase in population in the district that includes Spicer, New London and Green Lake. Under state law, the average size of the districts must be comparable in each district.

Also on the agenda for Tuesday's regular meeting, at 10 a.m. the commissioners will hear an update from Steve Renquist, executive director of the Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission, followed by recommendations from the water planning task force and two public hearings on requests for outlets into County Ditches 31 and 52. At 11 a.m. the commissioners will hear a request from the Kandiyohi County Lakes Association for matching funds.

Prior to the regular meeting, the commissioners will conduct a Family Services meeting at 9 a.m. Items on that agenda include annual reports on home and community-based services, and assessments and intake and licensing child care services. There will also be a proclamation regarding April being Child Abuse Prevention Month.
