SPICER - Delores E. Finden, 84 of Spicer, died Wednesday morning, February 19, 2014, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Inurnment will be in the Maywood Covenant Cemetery in Oak Park, MN. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or The Link. www.hafh.org
Delores Ellen Finden was born on August 6, 1929, in Milaca, the daughter of Otto and Pearl (Nelson) Anderson. She grew up in Milaca where she attended country school and Milaca High School, graduating in 1947. On March 4, 1949, Delores was united in marriage to Avery Finden in Bock. This union was blessed with three daughters and two sons. The family made their home in Galesburg, IL from 1950 to1954, Farmington from 1954 to 1985, and then Spicer. Delores worked for the United States Postal Service as an assistant Post Master for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. Delores and Avery were able to share in 47 years of marriage before his death on December 13, 1996.
Delores was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer where she served on Alter Guild, at The Link and Tuesdays Table. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking and cooking, especially her famous Swedish meatballs and rye bread. She is remembered for her sense of humor, hospitality, fierce independence, giving spirit and devotion to family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Sherri DeLaHunt of Nisswa, Sue Ellen (Larry) McGill of Edina, Stephen (Susan) Finden of Farmington, Stacy (Keith) Grothem of Spicer, and Scott Finden of Willmar; eleven grandchildren; Kyle DeLaHunt, Dru and Darcy McGill, Larie Leskera, Larry McGill, Sam Finden, Sunny Finden-Bowman, Ellyn and Stephen Grothem, Olivia and Daniel Finden; and her sister, Judy (Dorian) Wallender of Lake Havasu, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Pearl; husband, Avery; son-in-law, Bo DeLaHunt and sister, Evelyn Loomis.
