Derrold A. Dahl April 28, 1946 - March 26, 2009

BURNSVILLE -- Derrold Alan Dahl, 62, of Burnsville, died March 26. He has suffered from esophageal cancer.

The service was March 31 in Bloomington. Burial was in Sparta Cemetery in rural Chippewa County. Arrangements were by First Memorial Funeral Chapel of Edina.

He was born April 28, 1946, in Montevideo to Harold and Lu Ella Dahl of Granite Falls. He grew up on a five-generation farm near Granite Falls and graduated from the Granite Falls Public Schools in 1964 and Staples Vocational School in 1966.

From 1967 to 1971 he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi, Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan and Ubon and Takhli air bases in Thailand. He returned to his job at Northwest Airlines. During 40 years with Northwest, he worked as a machinist, a tool and die maker, and a technical manual writer.

On April 6, 1968, he married Marilyn Borg in Montevideo. While serving in the military, the couple lived in Mississippi and Michigan. After his discharge from service, they lived in Minneapolis for one year before moving to Burnsville.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Minneapolis Gun Club, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the Aircraft Technical Support Association, and St. Luke's Lutheran Church where he served as the head usher and on the church council.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Dawn (and Bob) Hasse of Hartselle, Ala., and Roxanne (and Ron) Zytkovicz of Chaska; four grandchildren; his father of Granite Falls; and six siblings: Douglas (and Linda) Dahl of Eagan, Kenneth (and Lin) Dahl of Granite Falls, Kevin (and Pam) Dahl of Spicer, Greg Dahl of Willmar, Grady (and Amy) Dahl of Granite Falls and Cheryl (and John) Eckhardt of Clarkfield.

His mother preceded him in death.
