Design Center's annual planning session set for Wednesday
WILLMAR -- The Willmar Design Center board of directors and advisory board will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday for the annual planning session at the Mikkelson Building, located at the southeast corner of Litchfield Avenue and Fifth Street Southwest in downtown Willmar.
More than 20 individuals are expected, including Willmar's new mayor Frank Yanish.
Participants will address short- and long-term goals, appoint two new directors and seek agreement of essential tasks of Design Center 2011 activities.
The center engages more than 300 volunteers to implement improvements to Willmar's central business district.
Implementations are accomplished through the Connections Committee, Commons and Promotion Committee, and Urbanize-Restore Committee, and its eight event and taskforce committees such as Becker Market, 4th Street Taskforce and Holidaze.
Beverly Dougherty, Design Center project coordinator, said "Every year we gather to talk about the previous year's accomplishments and plan for what's next. We have an extraordinary group of people committed to our city and the success of downtown Willmar."
