BENSON -- Motorists on state Highway 29 between Starbuck and Benson will experience delays when a road resurfacing project and detour begins next week.

According to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, starting on May 29, traffic will use a detour on state Highway 28, Stevens County Road 1 and state Highway 9 through late June while crews replace several culverts and repair frost heaves.

Following the detour, crews will resurface the roadway, which will require lane closures with a pilot car operation.

All work is scheduled to be complete in mid-July, weather permitting.

The project was originally scheduled to begin in mid-June, but favorable weather conditions will allow the contractor to start the project early.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
