DeWayne M. Olson Sept. 12, 1924 - Feb. 7, 2014

NEW LONDON - DeWayne M. Olson, 89 of New London died Friday, February 07, 2014, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb 15, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Colfax Cemetery in rural New London at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or the Colfax Cemetery Association. www.hafh.org

DeWayne Manley Olson was born on Sept. 12, 1924, on the family farm in Colfax Township, the son of Joseph and Inez (Larson) Olson. He grew up on the family farm in Colfax Township where he attended country grade school in district #13. On April 19, 1945, he entered the US Army where he served his country during WWII. He was discharged on Dec. 7, 1946, and returned home where he continued to farm with his family. On Oct. 24, 1947, DeWayne was united in marriage to Olive Hagen at Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union two sons were born. They made their home in Colfax Township where they farmed. DeWayne and Olive were able to share in 66 years of marriage.

DeWayne was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He also served on the Dist. #13 school board, Minnesota Valley Breeders Association, New London Creamery Board and was a member of the American Legion.

DeWayne died on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the GlenOaks Care Center at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife, Olive; sons, Gary (Rita) Olson of New London and Alan (Kathy) Olson of New London; grandchildren, Lisa (Ron) Cuka, Shelly (Judd) Duininck, Lacey (Craig) Barker, Isaac Olson, and Shae Olson; great-grandchildren, Austin Cuka, Tanner Cuka, Mariah Duininck, Griffin Duininck, Annika Duininck, and Haley Barker; siblings, Richard (Carmen) Olson of Spicer and Ruth (Lyndon) Norsten of Willmar; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Olson of New London; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded death by his parents and brother, Reynold.
