Diane was born on April 26, 1943, Watertown, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Joyce (Mann) Sankey. She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1961. On May 18, 1963, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Hemze and to this union two sons were born, Jon and Joel. Even though this marriage did not stand the test of time, Diane remained generous, caring and giving to LeRoy until his passing.

Diane lived in Willmar and for the next 45 years she worked in auto sales as a bookkeeper for Torvik Motor Company, Heinz Cadillac and most recently Mills, before retiring in 2011.

On July 14, 1978, she was united in marriage to Julian "Whitey" Sletten. Unfortunately, Whitey preceded her in death on November 25, 1979. Shortly thereafter, Diane completed her family with the adoption of Lacey from Brazil.

She exemplified what a mother is, especially as a single mother of three. She provided a beautiful home, plenty of food on the table and many memorable family vacations. Diane provided all of this with patience, guidance and an excellent sense of humor. Her seven grandchildren each know her abundant love for them and there is no doubt they have an angel watching over them. Her fighting and determined spirit will live on in all those who knew her and we will miss her!

Surviving are her children, Jon (and Missy) Hemze of Waconia; Joel (and Becky) Hemze of Audobon and Lacey Sletten of Duluth; seven grandchildren, Mason, Owen, Paetyn, Tayler, Reed, Ava and Keegan. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Sharon (and Dale) Sankey Latterell and Patricia Gill.

Besides her husband, Whitey; she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dennis and Lon Sankey and Darla Toms.
