Disaster drill taking place at Southern MN sugar Thursday
RENVILLE — Emergency Responders from Renville, Danube, Olivia and Sacred Heart along with the Renville County Emergency Management and Ridgewater College will be involved in an emergency response exercise from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. today at Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative.
The purpose of the exercise is to test and evaluate the facility crisis management plan and the response preparedness of multiple local response organizations. The response exercise will provide an opportunity to test and evaluate emergency services and support agencies associated with hazardous material releases, personal injuries, evacuation requirements, and other circumstances which may compromise the health and welfare of the SMBSC employees.
There will be up to 112 personnel from 12 different organizations ad agencies involved in this drill. Residents in the area may see several ambulances, fire trucks, police vehicles, and the North Air Care helicopter at the scene.
A backup date is June 10.
