Doing business online workshop is Sept. 20

WILLMAR -- Business owners are invited to explore options for using the Internet and finding the best fit for their operations online during a workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Willmar Middle School Computer Lab Room 138.

The workshop is being made available at no charge through University of Minnesota Extension as part of the Minnesota Intelligent Rural Communities program coordinated by the Blandin Foundation of Grand Rapids and funded by a U.S. Department of Commerce grant.

The workshop is the first in a series of eight computer workshops that will be offered in Kandiyohi County, using computer labs at the Willmar Middle School and the New London-Spicer High School.

Participants will research what other businesses are doing online; explore the use of online tools such as blogs, social media and online auctions and options for creating a website; learn strategies for promoting and having your website found online; and creating a plan to take advantage of the Internet.

The program will be presented by Hans Muessig, director of the Minnesota Intelligent Rural Communities program. He will also be available for individual consultation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 21.

Those who are interested in a consultation are asked to make an appointment at 320-235-7370 or email

Workshop registration can also be accomplished by calling the Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission at the above phone number or online at the above email address.

"We hope our business community can benefit from these sessions. They really are very good and best of all, they are free during this grant period,'' said Jean Spaulding of the EDC.
