RENVILLE - Don William Holm, age 81, of Renville, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Renville. The Rev. Tom Evenson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. and continue Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. until the service time all at the church in Renville. Arrangements with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home, Renville, Minnesota.

Don William Holm was born on March 10, 1932, in Graceville, Minnesota to Paul William and Sybil Jeanette (Nadeau) Holm. He grew up in Wheaton, Minnesota and attended school at Wheaton Public Schools, graduating in 1950. During his school years, Don enjoyed all sport activities including football, basketball, and baseball. Following graduation, he worked various jobs until entering the United States Army. Upon his discharge from the Army, he continued his education at Moorhead State Teachers College. During this time he also had part-time jobs including working as a night chef at a hotel, worked at the campus eating service, delivered mail, and as a driving instructor over the Christmas holiday. Don was united in marriage to Doris Holm on August 18, 1956, at First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. Don worked as a teacher, teaching school in Appleton and Ortonville prior to moving to Renville in 1970. While in Renville he was the Elementary Principal and also taught math and science in the classroom, retiring in 1994. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Renville, the Renville American Legion, the Gideon’s, the Renville Lions Club, and was a Master Gardner. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, and Bible Study. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Viking, and Gophers play, as well as attending his grandchildren’s events. Don and Doris enjoyed many winters in Arizona and summers at the lake with their family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Doris, his son and daughter: Paul (and Brenda) of Renville, Sarah (and Dan) Smith of Hutchinson; his grandchildren: Cameron, Travis, and Lance Holm, and Erika and Eliza Smith; his sister Pamela (and David) Fankhanel of Bemidji, MN, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lanny Holm and an infant daughter.
