Dorethea Giese June 12, 1925 - June 2, 2009
APPLETON -- Dorethea Eleanor Minnie Giese, 83, of Appleton, died Tuesday at Appleton Area Health Services.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
She was born June 12, 1925, in Fairfield Township, Swift County, to Carl and Ella (Quandt) Beyer. She attended rural school at District 48 through the eighth grade and graduated from Holloway High School in 1943.
She married Donald Giese on June 8, 1945 in Moyer Township, Swift County. They lived on the Giese family farm in rural Holloway. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway and participated in Bible study, ladies aid, Sunday school, Wednesday catechism, Vacation Bible School, and the church choir. She was a member of the quilters' club, birthday club, Over-50 Club, AAL/Thrivent and homemakers. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Appleton Nursing Home for 10 years.
She is survived by six children: Vivian (and Richard) Straumann of Arden Hills, Donna (and Stan) Barney of Clara City, Joanne (and Edward) Maeder of Edina, Byron (and Marlene) Giese of Benson, Allen (and Patricia) Giese of Wahpeton, N.D., and Janel (and Shawn) Redepenning of Big Lake; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings: David (and Gladys) Beyer of Holloway and Louise Eysel of Columbus, Ga.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 2000, three brothers and one sister.
