NEW LONDON - Doris E. Hatlestad age 87, of New London, died on Friday, January 17, 2014, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Her funeral service will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake in rural New London. Burial will be at the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7:30 pm on Monday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. www.hafh.org

Doris Elaine Hatlestad was born in Brooten, MN on July 11, 1926, the daughter of Albert "A.O." and Olivia (Knutson) Wall. She grew up in New London where she attended elementary school and went on to graduate from New London High School with the class of 1944. After high school Doris entered St. Olaf College and then transferred to the University of Minnesota where she earned her B.S. in nursing.

On September 9, 1950, Doris was united in marriage to Ellsworth Hatlestad at Lebanon Lutheran Church in New London. This union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. The family made their home in the Lake Andrew Township in rural New London. Doris worked at GlenOaks Care Center in New London as a Registered Nurse and was also a wonderful homemaker.

Doris was baptized on September 12, 1926, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. On June 11, 1939, she was confirmed into the Christian Faith at Lebanon Lutheran Church in New London. Doris was a member at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. She was very active in the WELCA, as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the altar guild, and singing soprano in the church choir.

Doris was also a member of the Old Log Church Organizing and Planning Committee and an adult leader of the Little Crow 4-H Club. Music was a very important part of Doris life. She was very proud that all members of her family were musical as well. Doris and Ellsworth were season ticket holders of the West Central Concert Series from its inception 49 years ago. Doris was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very active grandmother who loved to play with and read to her grandchildren. Doris will be remembered as a faithful, compassionate, and selfless woman who will be greatly missed be everyone she knew.

Doris E. Hatlestad died on Friday, January 17, 2014, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ellsworth; children, Elaine Hayes of Chisholm, Lynn (Craig) Edwards of New London, Phillip (Carolyn) Hatlestad of New London, and John (Kathryn) Hatlestad of Maplewood; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers-in-law, Hanley and Sherlyn Hatlestad.
