COSMOS - Dorothy C. Kaddatz, age 89 of Cosmos died on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00am on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Cosmos. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org

Dorothy Corinne Hervin Kaddatz was born on July 18, 1923 in Renville county, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Rose (Dehnel) Hervin. She grew up in the Hector/Cosmos area where she attended school and graduated from Hutchinson High School in the class of 1941. She attended Normal Teacher Training in Hutchinson where she received a teaching certificate in 1942. Dorothy later went on to receive her BS Degree in Elementary Education at St. Cloud State College.

Dorothy was united in marriage to George Kaddatz on July 22, 1944 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. She taught for twelve years in rural schools in the counties of McCloud, Meeker and Kandiyohi before interrupting her career to raise a family. She resumed her teaching career for the Darwin Country School in 1968. She taught at Eden Valley/Watkins from 1970 until retirement in 1988. She continued to work as a substitute teacher in Cosmos for several years. George and Dorothy raised nine children on their farm south of Cosmos. They moved to Sunrise Village in Willmar in 2008. They entered Bethesda Heritage Center in 2010. Her husband George passed away on March 12, 2013.

Dorothy was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector and confirmed her faith at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos where she was an active member. Among her many activities were: Sunday School & VBS teacher and superintendent, Bethel teacher, and PLCW officer.

She was a 66 year member of the Cosmos Legion Auxiliary serving many positions and planing many events in the community. She volunteered her services with the American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens activities, and Cosmos Space Festival. She loved gardening, canning, shopping, sewing and bowling.

She is survived by her children: Don (Jean) Kaddatz of Mora, Laurel (Jackie) Kaddatz of Carmel, NY, Coreen (Steve) Williams of Spicer, Bette Schweer of Clarkfield, Connie Larson of Waseca, Georgine Madden of St. Louis Park, Craig (Nancy) Kaddatz of Canby, Jay (Denise) Kaddatz of St. Helena, NE, Patricia (Scott) Cozad of Elko; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister June Tierney of Paynesville; brother Andrew (Ethel) Hervin of Cold Spring; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband George, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Florence Remus, Mildred Asklund and Gladys Johnson; son-in-law Brian Schweer; grandchildren: Michael Lundin and Cally Jo Larson and other loved ones.
