Dorothy E. Railson Oct. 18, 1926 - March 5, 2013

SAUK CENTRE - Dorothy E. Railson, 86 of Sauk Centre, formerly of New London, died Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Sauk Centre. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Dorothy Esther Railson was born October 18, 1926 in Willmar, the daughter of George and Esther (Witte) Rhyner. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up on the family farm near Atwater and attended Atwater High School, graduating in 1944. She spent her early adult life in Willmar. On January 6, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert W. Railson at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. To this union a son and four daughters were born. They were stationed in Georgia for a year before returning to Willmar where they lived for two years. They then moved to a farm near New London where they farmed and Dorothy had a cleaning business with her good friend, Julie Johnson and worked as assistant Librarian at Prairie Woods. They retired in Sunburg. Dorothy and Robert were able to share in forty years of marriage before his death on July 25, 1991. Dorothy moved to New London in 2001 and Sauk Centre in 2005 to be closer to her daughters.

Dorothy was member of First Lutheran Church of Sauk Centre and associate member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake where she had served in WELCA. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle and patient spirit and unconditional love and support for her family. She enjoyed cooking, crafts, entertaining family and friends, and dancing.

Dorothy is survived by son, Steve (Luann) Railson; daughters: Sandy (Lowell) Anderson, Sharon (Kent) Tengwall, Kristie (Chris) Farran, Kathy Railson; 12 grandchildren; and many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents and brother, Aldean.
