Dorothy J. Pierson, 97, of Willmar, died Thursday, August 21st at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. There will be a visitation from 6-8 pm, Friday, August 29th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home with a Time of Sharing and Refreshments at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, Nebraska. Memorials are preferred. www.hafh.org

Dorothy was born on September 1, 1916, in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Wilbur and Charlotte (Samsel) Pease. She grew up in Lincoln where she graduated from high school. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska.

On January 12, 1937, she was united in marriage to Jack Pierson at her parents home. They lived in Griswold, IA, Lincoln, Minneapolis and Montevideo before moving to Willmar where they made their home for close to 70 years.

Dorothy worked for several years at Butters in downtown Willmar before working at the Kandiyohi County Courthouse as the secretary to the Kandiyohi County Schools Superintendent and Superintendent of Nursing. Before retiring in 1982, she worked in the Clerk of Courts for many years.

She volunteered in the Elderly Day Care Program and the Rice Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. Dorothy was also active with ALANON. She enjoyed playing Bridge, and taking the bus to the Guthrie, well into her 90s. Dorothy could often be found tending to her beautiful flower gardens of which many walkers would stop and admire. She was a fantastic cook who enjoyed entertaining family for dinner. Dorothy and Jack also traveled to many places in the U.S. and they also loved to camp and be in the outdoors. She was a classy lady who will be missed.

Surviving are her children, Robert "Joe" Pierson of Caldwell, ID; Jackie (and Bill) Burggraff of New London; Mike (and Maureen) Pierson of New London; six grandchildren, Scott (and Marina) Pierson, Kris (and Mike) Craig, James (and Jenny) Anfinson, Chad (and Michelle) Pierson, Brian (and Kelli) Anfinson, Suzy (and Phil) Simon and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Jack, in 2013.
