SUNBURG - Dorothy L. Carlson, 82 of Sunburg, died on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Burial will be at Spring Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

Dorothy L. Carlson was born on August 8, 1930 in Clara City, Minnesota, the daughter of John Henry and Dena (Overlander) Klinghagen. She moved with her family to rural Kerkhoven where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Ellert Carlson on February 7, 1953 at the Evangelical Free Church parsonage in Kerkhoven. The couple farmed in Swift County near Sunburg. Following Ellert’s death in November of 1999, Dorothy continued to live in Sunburg until November 15, 2010 and then became a resident at Copperleaf Senior Living Memory Care Unit in Willmar.

Dorothy was baptized at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and was later confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church near Sunburg where she was an active member in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. Her family enjoyed her baking especially her bars, cakes and rosettes.

She is survived by her son James (and Nancy) Carlson of Murdock; daughter Debra (and John) Bills of Spicer; four grandchildren: Michael (and Stephanie) Carlson, Crystal (and Joshua) Ackley, Wayne Carlson (and fiancé Alyshia), Bobby Carlson (and fiancé Shawna); four great-grandchildren: Caleigh Calson, Jhaylen Freburg, Patrick Carlson, and Jase Ackley. She is also survived by her brother, Roger Klinghagen of Willmar; sister, Georgetta Rieder of Glenwood; sisters-in-law: Dorothy, June, Iva Lou and Joyce and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and son, Keith.
